MEETINGS!

This is a dilemma almost all of us suffer from. There are people who strongly believe in ritualistic and systematic appearance in meetings and the other school of people believe that meetings are sheer wastage of time and other precious resources. These people think that there are other informal available ways by which you can achieve the goals that of a meeting without shutting yourself away in regular and prolonged meetings and making yourself unaccessible !

Let us know what is your experience and how you feel about it ?

THE MYTH
The Census 2001 tells us that poverty has got nothing to do with Gender biased abortions ! Gender biased abortions are more prevalent in so called educated in so called educated and better offs ! Poor treat their girls better than rich.

Identity Crisis ?
Majority of India, are they

1. Hindus.?
2. Poor. ?
Many of them living below the poverty line,
                               Or
3. Many of us having no clean Drinking Water, Education and / or Shelter !

It Depends how we look at it but if the Identification and diagnosis of out inherent problems are not accurate , we may have to remain where we have been years back !

Khan abdul Gaffar khan, during a state visit to India in 1969, addressed us and remarked "you talk a lot but do not know how to work, it seems as if you think that to clop, give or heat speeches and get photographed is work ! After being free for laast 20 years, you beg from small contries but you don't remember your poor !".

LISTEN & LISTEN YOU MUST!
  • Listen to understand-not with the intent to reply.
  • Seek first to understand-then to be understood.
  • Do not listen with your ears only, listen with your eyes and your heart.
  • Make people talk about themselves.
  • Do not offer solutions before you fully understand the other person's situation, motives, expectations and wants.
  • When you have an encounter with someone less fortunate than you are, try to understand how it feels to be in that position.
  • The next time you notice someone smiling, try asking why he or she is feeling so good.

TALENT MANAGEMENT
Team building, performing & rewarding!

“Trust between people does not necessarily mean that they like one another. It means that they understand one another. - Peter F. Drucker

Peter F. Drucker (1909 - 2005)
Peter Ferdinand Drucker, a knowledge worker himself, was born in Vienna in 1909. Since world war-I left little opportunity for him in Vienna, he finished education, started working in Germany and earned a doctorate in International Law. The rise of Nazism also drove him out and he moved for good to United States. Here he became a professor and freelance writer. Professor Drucker could understand growing importance of people who worked with their minds rather than their hands. He once remarked “.... traditionally we have searched for the miracle worker with a magic wand to turn an ailing organisation around. To establish, maintain and restore a theory, however, does not require a Genghis Khan or a Leonardo da Vinci in the executive suite. It is not genius ; it is hard work. It is not being clever ; it is being conscientious. It is what CEOs are paid for.”

Mind is all about the fascinating exploration of that crucial aspect of the self that makes human beings so unique and complex. The search for the mind is the search for who we are! Those creations that are our greatest achievements - literature, art and music - are mind at its most sublime. Passion and reflection, thought and emotion are aspects of the mind - yet mind remains always so mysterious.

Earnest Hemingway (1889-1961), creative artist and depressive, killed himself with a shotgun, so did his father and so did his brother! He epitomized many of the complexities often found in people suffering from depression.

Body, Mind, Heart and Spirit -
The New Mantra

The fourth intelligence is Spiritual Intelligence (SQ). Spiritual Intelligence is the central and most fundamental of all the intelligences because it becomes the source of guidance of the other three. Spiritual intelligence represents our drive for meaning and connection with the infinite, as it helps us to discern true principles that are part of our conscience.

What do i mean by spiritual ? I simply mean that whole reality and dimension which is bigger , more creative, more loving, more powerful, more visionary, more wise and more mysterious than materialistic daily human existence.

Unlike IQ, which computers have, and EQ, which exists in higher mammals, SQ is uniquely human and the most fundamental of the three. It is linked to humanity's need for meaning, an issue very much at the forefront of our minds. . . . SQ is what we use to develop our longing and capacity for meaning, vision, and value. It allows us to dream and to strive. It underlies the things we believe in and the role our beliefs and values play in the actions we take. It is, in essence, what makes us humane.

“We never dreamt just about size, revenues and profits. Our dream, right from day one, was to build a corporation that was, above all things, respected” - Infosys founder and chief mentor, Mr. NR Narayana Murthy.

SPEAK YOUR MIND WHEN IT MATTERS
The best change leaders are seldom arragant or egocentric. They do, however, develop higher levels of cofidence that enable them to speak out when it matters, much more readily and effectively than their counterparts in normal managerial roles. Moreover, they seem to be able to it without oppearing to be impertiment. A fundamental characteristic of Real Change Leaders (RCLs) is that they often ask higher management the kind of questions that others don't believe can be asked. In that way, they challenge established traditions and knock down throught to be sealed. More imporatant and visible to those who observe them, they are sedom shot down by management, but instead are actually listened to and appreciated. They build stronger, not weaker, ties to management. As a result, their own and other's cofidence and courage are bolstered, and it becomes easier for others to join in the next around.

We salute our MOTHERS. Be happy and be around !

Where do you think you fit in ?

NEVER SAY DIE !
The first HIV-positive case was diagnosed in Chennai in 1984! So much has happened since the death of a businessman in Mumbai's Jaslok Hospital 20 years before, followed two years later by a sex worker in J. J. Hospital. Nobody believes today that AIDS is just another Western affliction which has nothing to do with morally upright India! Today India is fast becoming the country with highest number of HIV/AIDS cases.

“A dangerous person was admitted in Jashlok Hospital at peddar road, Mumbai believe it or not but this is how 30 members of the state assembly reacted on learning about the first AIDS death in Mumbai, 20 years ago. Such mass panic reactions are no longer seen today HIV / AIDS has been around for 25 years after initially being thought of as 'Gay Cancer'. People now know that HIV spreads through sexual contacts, infected blood transfusion, needle use or from a mother to a child. But when a 56-year-old middle-class man was declared dead in June 9, 1986, such knowledge was scarce.

Let us not avoid the issue, let us discuss and be aware of the humane face of our HIV/AIDS patients. Let us prevent the situation from further deterioration.

BUSINESS PLAN
The Dilbert funda!

Somewhere between the hallucinations of senior management and the cold reality of the market lies something called a business plan. There are two major steps to building a business plan :

1) Gather information.
2) Ignore it.

The senior management will look at the aggregated lies of the individual business units and adjust them to where they “know they should be”. This can cause a fairly large gap between what the employees think they can do and what senior management tells them they must do. This gap can be closed by adjusting the assumptions.

First assume that positive trends will continue forever and negative trends will turn around soon. Then run the numbers through a computer spreadsheet. The result is the future.
(Later, if you turn out to be wrong, blame it on the global economy).

Sex and Liquor!
The Dilbert funda!

A hundred years ago, the legal age of consent for a woman was ten years old. Now it's eighteen. When I was a teenager in New York State, the legal age for drinking was eighteen. Now it's twenty-one.

The legal ages are creeping up, because it's obvious that the people below those ages are complete morons and can't handle sex and liquor. But what about the people over the legal ages? How bright are they?

The obvious solution is to keep increasing the age limits until we find the age where people become smart and responsible. In the future, the age of consent for sex and liquor will be raised to 120. This will not have any impact on the amount of actual sex and drinking in the world, but at least we'll know our lawmakers weren't sitting idly by while the world went to hell.

SUCCESS - THE FLAVOUR IS SWEET !
The origin of 'success' was in Latin word Successus. According to oxford dictionary, success means accomplishment of an aim or purpose, gaining fame, wealth or social status. Thus all of us from our childhood start dreaming about success. But, the edifice of success doesn't fortunately or unfortunately have an elevator! So, to reach the heights, you, me and all of us, have to strive very smart avoiding shortcuts to be successful in life.

Success may be defined by many people in many different ways. While success for Bin Laden may be to blow off 10 aeroplanes at a time in the air the success for Mother Teresa was always to give that extra 5 minutes meaningful life with solace and dignity for a dying soul! Success needs plan, dedication, control and most of all, bringing the heart to work !

Who does really succeed in life? We can sum up the reasons of success and failure by following prose written by somebody unknown. “The heights by great men reached and kept were not obtained by sudden flights! But they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night!”

GOD KEEPS US GOING....

Arthur Ashe, the legendary Wimbledon player was dying of AIDS which he got due to infected blood he received during a heart surgery in 1983. From world over, he received letters from his fans, one of which conveyed: "Why does GOD have to select you for such a bad disease"?

To this Arthur Ashe replied: The world over -- 5 crore children start playing tennis, 50 lakh learn to play tennis, 5 lakh learn Professional tennis, 50,000 come to the Circuit, 5000reach the grand slam, 50 reach Wimbledon, 4 to semi final, 2 to the finals, When I was holding a cup I never asked GOD "Why me?".

And today in pain I should not be asking GOD "Why me?"

Happiness keeps us Sweet, Trials keep us Strong, Sorrow keeps us Human, Failure Keeps us Humble, Success keeps us Glowing, but only God Keeps us Going .....
